Vinyl Sheet Flooring

If you’re trying to find flooring that is easy to buy, relativity easy to install and simple to match to virtually any decor, look no further than vinyl sheet flooring.  It is among the most widely used flooring choices around!

What exactly is vinyl sheet flooring?

It is precisely what it feels like – long, wide sheets of vinyl.  Vinyl sheet flooring comes in rolls of either 6’ or 12’, so you don’t need to worry about having seams all over the place.  Seams don’t only look bad; they also allow moisture to seep in. If you reside in a high-humidity environment, or if you perhaps just need a floor that’s water-resistant, vinyl sheet flooring could be the perfect solution.

What does vinyl sheet flooring look like?

Much like other kinds of flooring, vinyl sheet flooring comes in a rainbow of colors and patterns.  Vinyl sheet flooring is designed to look like different kinds of high-end flooring – from granite, to hardwood, to ceramic tile and stone.  It may even be embossed to ensure that it feels as though it is high-end flooring rather than just a smooth sheet.

How do you install vinyl sheet flooring?

While it is meant to look like high-end flooring, vinyl sheet flooring is much easier to install.  The sheet glues to your floor!  Some sheets come pre-glued, so all you need to do is to remove the backing and lay it down.  Other sheets require you to carefully and physically glue them to your floor, but it’s a procedure that’s easy enough for most beginners. Armstrong has a “Do-It-Yourself Sheet Flooring Installation System” that includes a guaranteed installation Guide  and a ‘GOOF-PROOF’ GUARANTEE‘.

Sometimes vinyl sheet flooring can also be laid over your existing floor, so you don’t have to worry about the expense of removing the old floor first!

How do you maintain vinyl sheet flooring?

Another great benefit of vinyl sheet flooring is that it requires almost no maintenance.  Most sheets are considered “no-wax”; meaning that you never have to buff or polish it.  All you need to do to keep it looking its best, is to sweep and mop it on a regular basis.

How can you distinguish high-quality vinyl sheet flooring from inferior quality?

As a general rule: the thicker the sheet, the higher the quality.  Thicker sheets of vinyl flooring usually look better and tend to be more durable. Also – thicker sheets usually come with a cushioned backing that makes it more pleasant to walk and stand on.  There is a variety of cushioned backings to select from, too.  Some are thicker than others as they are made from foam.  Some are produced from fiberglass – which, while it isn’t as soft, is more durable.
